Sir Edward Garnier, MP for Harborough, Oadby and Wigston, congratulated Leah Nelson, a Year 7 pupil at Abington Academy in Wigston Magna, for being one of the seven national winners of the We Made It! competition. The awards ceremony was on Tuesday in the Terrace Pavilion of the House of Commons where Leah and her father, Mark, attended.
Sir Edward sent a letter to all schools last year inviting them to enter the competition, which entailed designing a new and innovative product. He selected Leah’s product of the dozens of entries he received, which was a shoe with an insert that can be used to store small items, in place of a handbag. Leah’s product was then selected as the regional winner by a team of industry experts and she had the chance to make a prototype of her product in December, which you can see in the attached photograph.
Edward Garnier said: “I am pleased that Leah has had a journey as a result of this competition which I only hope will continue. Her design was certainly innovative and I hope she had an enjoyable day with the other regional winners here at the Commons.”
