Last Wednesday Sir Edward Garnier, MP for Harborough, Oadby and Wigston, organised a visit to Prime Minister’s Questions for Harborough District Councillor Charmaine Wood and her father Abdul Butt followed by a private meeting with Prime Minister David Cameron in his office in the House of Commons. Mr Butt, who lives in Birmingham, is a great supporter of the Prime Minister and the Conservative Party and the surprise visit to meet Mr Cameron was arranged as a treat for him.
Sir Edward said, “I was delighted to help organise this visit. The Prime Minister has a hideously crowded diary so it was extremely kind of him and his staff at 10 Downing Street to fix the meeting for Mr Butt and Charmaine. We had about 10 minutes with the PM and Mr Butt spoke about his allegiance to the Conservatives, something he was proud Charmaine shared with him. David Cameron showed us around the office and pointed out portraits of earlier Prime Ministers and where Margaret Thatcher used to sit working late into the night when we had all night sittings in the Commons. It is incredible to think that despite his enormously busy day and having just come out of 30 minutes of Prime Minister’s Questions David Cameron was able to concentrate on us and make us feel so welcome. I hope it was a day for Mr Butt and Charmaine to remember. I am sure it was.”
