Harborough, Oadby & Wigston MP Sir Edward Garnier today said how disappointed and saddened he was on being told this week by the management of the 2 Sisters Food Group, the owners of the RF Brookes’s food manufacturing site in South Wigston, that they were to close it down.
“I remember last year when 2 Sisters took over the factory that they expressed doubt that the business was viable but if that was the case I am not sure why they bought it. I know this site was just one of three they bought in 2011 and that South Wigston, unlike the other two, has not been able to attract new business but I am deeply disappointed by their decision and saddened that people in my constituency with families to feed and mortgages to pay are to lose their jobs and livelihoods, particularly at a time of wider economic difficulty, when they were given some hope of continued employment last year.
“It is now incumbent on the 2 Sisters Food Group to all it can to look after the people who will be losing their jobs and to assist them in finding alternative employment. Anyone affected who does not receive adequate help from the company should get in touch with me and I will see what I can do to help.”
