Sir Edward Garnier, MP for Harborough, Oadby and Wigston, today welcomed the news that the number of unemployed claimants in the Harborough constituency in September 2013 was 1,099. This represents a rate of 2.2% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64, the 518th highest of the 650 UK constituencies. (1st = highest rate of unemployment, 650th = lowest rate of unemployment.)
The number of claimants is 258 lower than in September 2012 and 141 lower than in August 2013.
Sir Edward commented: “It is good to see that people in Harborough are getting back on their feet. The economy is clearly, if slowly, improving across the country and that is reflected here in Harborough as I have seen when visiting local businesses. We have a long way to go but I am happy to say that employment prospects in my constituency look good. I hope to see the good news maintained.”
