Harborough MP Sir Edward Garnier visited Market Harborough Sorting Office on Friday, 13 December to thank the postal staff for all that they do during the year to sort and deliver the post and, in particular, during the Christmas period when the volume of letters, cards and parcels goes up enormously.
Edward Garnier said: “8000 parcels a day go through the sorting office in the pre-Christmas period – in the summer there are about 2000 a day – and they all have to be delivered by hand throughout the LE16 postal code area along with all the letters and cards. There is a large team of postal staff who get to the sorting office long before dawn to get things ready and who then head out on their rounds in the town itself and in the surrounding villages. Paul Robinson, the Sorting Office Manager, gave me a tour of the office and could not have been more welcoming. Unless you go there it is difficult to see just how much work goes into delivering the post every week of the year and in all weather. ”
