Sir Edward Garnier, MP for Harborough, Oadby and Wigston, wrote to the Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries, Ed Vaizey MP on 2 December, following a meeting with residents in North Kilworth on 22 November at which they discussed, amongst other things, poor mobile telephone coverage, a common problem in rural Leicestershire. Sir Edward commented: “25 miles away in the village where I live the mobile coverage is just as bad and makes conducting one’s business or social life by mobile nigh impossible. We are looking forward, we hope, to an improved broadband internet service in Leicestershire in 2014 but in the meanwhile my constituents and I who live outside the main urban settlements receive a terrible service with internet speeds of often below 0.5 and intermittent mobile telephone reception. I am glad to see that the Minister is doing something but any solutions cannot come too quickly in my view.”
Mr Vaizey’s response is attached.
