Sir Edward Garnier, MP for Harborough, Oadby and Wigston, today welcomed the reduction in the number of unemployed in his constituency, down by nearly 300 in November to 988. This represents a rate of 2.0% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64, the 528th highest of the 650 UK constituencies (1st = highest rate of unemployment, 650th = lowest rate of unemployment).
Edward Garnier said: “Even though for everyone of the 988 people out of work their being out of work is a tragedy the overall economic picture is clearly, if slowly, improving. The number of claimants for this November is 298 lower than in November last year and 43 lower than in October 2013. This shows that we are doing well in tough times and are continuing to prosper despite the odds. I hope to see more evidence of improvement when the new statistics are released in January.”
