Sir Edward Garnier, MP for Harborough, Oadby and Wigston has welcomed the news from Cancer Research UK announcing that 63.5% of people aged 60-69 in NHS East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group’s geographical area are attending bowel cancer screening. This is higher than the average for the whole of England which is 57.4%.
Edward Garnier said: “Screening remains one of the best ways to spot bowel cancer early. Patients are more likely to survive bowel cancer if it is diagnosed at an earlier stage. It is good to know that the East Leicestershire and Rutland CCG is doing well in getting people screened. The next step is to have bowel screening for those of 70 to 75 years old.”
