Following the news by J G Pears that it will introduce noise and smell eliminating methods to reduce its impact on neighbouring houses, Sir Edward Garnier, MP for Harborough Oadby and Wigston commented:
“I am delighted that JG Pears have now formally applied for planning permission to construct buildings and other measures designed to alleviate the noise and sound nuisance coming from the factory. When I went to the site earlier this year I had some detailed discussions with the management about what they wanted to do and over what timescale and this is the result and a good first move. The company is being as good as its word so we all look forward to the speediest possible completion of the necessary works assuming they get planning approval. For far too long local residents have had to suffer from the noise and the stench emanating from the site and now we are seeing the first steps to bring this all under control. We must now wait and see if the Council thinks these plans are acceptable. Local residents have written to me and to the District Council on almost a weekly basis, highlighting lack of sleep and unacceptable smells. Last year I brought this matter up in Parliament so it is good to see that some action is finally being taken.”
