On Friday 10 January, Sir Edward Garnier, MP for Harborough, Oadby and Wigston, visited Market Harborough Squash and Racketball Club, where he met Alison Avil, the club secretary, as well as members of the club. Last October the MP wrote the attached letter of support for additional funding for the club from Sport England to help pay for two new, glass-walled squash courts and he expects a reply to the application this April. The response to Sir Edward from Sport England is also attached.
Speaking after the visit, Sir Edward commented: “It seems extraordinary that it has taken me 23 years as the MP to pay a visit and can see what I have missed now that I have been inside the building. Clearly the two new courts will make a huge difference to the Club and I hope that all goes well with the application to Sport England.”
Mrs Avil said: “We know what a terrific club we are involved in and how lucky we are to have so many great members. We are determined to make the extension happen.”
