Following a trip to Parliament by some young pupils aged 9 and 10 from South Kilworth Church of England Primary School in the summer term, Sir Edward Garnier visited the school to answer some of their questions on Friday, 27 September. After their parliamentary visit Sir Edward, MP for Harborough, received several letters from the children thanking him for meeting them in Parliament and asking some questions of him, including “why did you want to be an MP?”, “how many appointments do you have in a day” and “have you ever met the Queen?”.
The MP visited the school to talk to the children who had come to Westminster as well as others who had not been on the visit about his role as an MP and to answer their questions further. He also spoke to the Headteacher, Mrs Angela Dewes, about the pupil premium and funding for a new sports hall. He has written to ministers at the Department for Education about this.
Speaking after the visit, Sir Edward commented: “It is always fun to meet my younger constituents and to see how interested they are in politics and Parliament. I also visited Foxton Primary School on the same day to celebrate the UN World Milk Day so in one morning I went to two rural primary schools full of children keen to learn about the world.”
