Sir Edward Garnier, MP for Harborough, Oadby and Wigston, is one of the 27 founding members of the newly formed All Party Parliamentary Group for British Hindus. The main aim of this group is to listen to and represent the views of British Hindus in Parliament.
Sir Edward commented: “I know many constituents some of whom came to Britain 40 years ago from East Africa and some of whom came directly from India or were born here. They have settled into the business and social life of this country. One place where there isn’t much representation is in Parliament itself and what the APPG will try and do is to engage more British Hindus with politics and political life.”
Bob Blackman MP, the Chair of the APPG said: “I have been working towards the creation of a strong forum for British Hindus to interact with Parliament since being elected, so I am delighted that this cross-party group has now formed and is receiving a lot of support across the board. I look forward to hosting a lively programme of discussions and events which will provide a platform for the Hindu community to positively engage and find its voice within our political system.”
