On Monday 11 July Edward Garnier attended several meetings in Parliament to discuss the proposed closure of the East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre.
Edward Garnier said: "We had a useful meeting in the House of Commons with, first, the Leicester Hospital Trust’s team and, then, with the Secretary of State and Sir Bruce Keogh and his colleagues from NHS England. MPs from both the city and county and thus from the Labour and Conservative Parties were there and we were all determined to find out what the facts are and the methodology behind them is that persuade NHS England to recommend their proposals concerning the children’s cardiac unit, and what the programme for consultation on their proposal is. This is just the start of a lengthy programme and we MPs are determined to ensure that our constituents, our county and the East Midlands as a whole get the best in terms of access to specialist children’s cardiac services."
