Edward Garnier has helped the residents of Thirlmere Road, Wigston, celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee as they wanted by holding a street party without being interfered with by traffic. The residents had initially planned to apply for a licence from Oadby & Wigston Borough Council to block the street to traffic for the duration of the street party but fell foul of the bureaucracy.
Speaking after he intervened with the Council Edward Garnier said: “The problem resulted from the fact that the resident in question had unfortunately not submitted any request to the Council or the required paperwork for the street party although he had been advised him to do so some weeks ago. These things are complicated and it’s not difficult to miss deadlines. Happily, after I contacted Mark Hall, the Council’s Chief Executive, the Borough’s Licensing Team met the residents yesterday and explained the situation. They then worked tirelessly with these residents and other agencies to fast track the process and I am delighted that the street party will now go ahead as the residents had wanted and planned with all of the correct measures in place.
“I am grateful to Mark Hall and his staff for the approach they took to this problem and know that my constituents in Thirlmere Road will enjoy the Jubilee all the more thanks to this good news.”
