Asked recently about the below schedule for Market Harborough’s New Hospital, Sir Edward Garnier said:“I have no doubt that this latest group of people working for the NHS will do their best to ensure that the new hospital in Market Harborough starts its construction next September but I hope they will not accuse me of undue cynicism when I say I will believe it only when I see the construction team on site and the ribbon cut when it’s finished.
“My constituents and I have been holding our breath for well over a decade, have seen vast sums of taxpayers’ money spent on its not being built, and have read any number of promises from the various bureaucratic manifestations of the NHS over this time but have yet to see anything actually happen.“I had this with the day centre too although it was eventually opened - although it has not been a smooth and seamless journey since. This whole St Luke’s farrago is an object lesson in how not to spend public money but who knows, perhaps this time something might actually happen. The staff, patients and my constituents have shown the patience of Job so I sincerely hope this time it will be different. When it’s finished I will be the first to cheer.”
