Speaking this weekend the MP said: “I recently met Gail Devereux-Batchelor who runs a local company called ‘Home Instead Senior Care’ (www.homeinstead.co.uk) which provides non-medical care for the elderly or infirm at home Quite apart from offering companionship to those who are on their own, the company helps with making appointments, planning outings and general shopping, such as buying food, dropping off and collecting the dry cleaning, getting the newspapers or renting DVDs or videos. They also collect prescriptions and can perform household tasks like washing and ironing, changing the bed linen and preparing meals and helping with bathing and dressing.
“There is a growing demand for older people to remain independent in their own homes for as long as they would like but the image of professional carers is not quite as attractive as that of nurses or other health and social care workers. Gail told me she needs many more trained and qualified professional carers and she can provide the training and the opportunities for part time work in Harborough and the surrounding area.
“If anyone is looking for this type of opportunity I urge them to contact Gail. It is invaluable and rewarding work.”
