Ken Clarke and Edward Garnier: Middle East Talks
Shadow Business Secretary and Rushcliffe MP, Ken Clarke, and Shadow Attorney General and Harborough MP, Edward Garnier, fly to the Middle East on Sunday, 14 February for talks with Israeli and Palestinian leaders at a time when tensions in the region are still high.
Edward Garnier said today in advance of the visit:
“We will be meeting political, legal and business figures during our 4 day visit to the region ranging from the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority, the CEOs of the Bank of Palestine and the Al-Quds Bank, to the Finance and Trade Ministers and Deputy Foreign Minister of Israel, and judges of the Israeli Supreme Court. We will also meet local MPs and business people. The intention is to get an up to date understanding of the state of the regional economy and political temperature on both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian divide and to see how what we hope will be an incoming Conservative Government after the general election can play its part in bringing peace and greater prosperity to the peoples of Israel, the West Bank and Gaza as well as business and legal opportunities for the United Kingdom.
“I could not be going with a more experienced colleague than Ken Clarke and although I have been to the Middle East several times his take on the issues we will be facing there will be invaluable.” ENDS
